Growing up I've had 4 wheelers and dirtbikes since I was probably 8-10, the mechanic who lived down the road was the Dad of MX rider Jason Thomas needless to say he is Jason's head mechanic and the only thing he refuses to work on are Polaris's. (Polari)

According to him the best ATV's are Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki in that order. To be honest with you I have never heard anything good about Polaris's(Polari)

I had (still have) a Kawasaki Bayou growing up and put many thousands of miles on it I treated it well but I put that thing through it's paces and it works flawlessly today. A great 4 wheeler although slower than crap.

2001 trail blazer and thank you for your reply. I know nothing about 4 wheelers to speak of. I have a friend that is selling it and we live in a small town where you can legally ride them in town. I'm not a race or jumper just a putter.

The guy across the road rents ATV's. He doesn't particularly like Polaris but mostly cause they are hard to work on. Something about having to remove a lot of plastic in order to get at stuff.

He deals mostly with Yamaha but has some hondas too I think. We have a Polaris, not sure but I think it's a 700 or so, sitting in the back yard right now. It belongs to a friend and it's here cause we hauled his log splitter down here with it. It's a nice machine. Runs nice. It's a 4 wheel.

I'm thinking 700 monopoly bucks is a pretty good price for anything used that is in good shape. A new 250 is probably list over 2 G's. If you are buying, offer 5 or 6 with cash.

There are a lot of older 2WD Kawasaki Bayou's around cheap and they are solid. Polaris is pretty sad. All ATV's are hard to work on.

Here's a 2003 like new for 1350. If it's well used I'd probably start like I said with 5 bills. If it is well kept though maybe 650.

The 4 wheeler in the video is a 2 stroke, and being an automatic it is slower than dirt probably a top speed of 40mph. FWIW.

Also don't quote me on this but Polaris's are all chain driven.

Here is an excerpt from yahoo answers.

Polaris is the junkiest ATV out there, where I live ATV's are more popular than cars and when I'm out riding my ATV I always run into a poor guy with a broken down Polaris and I have to end up towing him home, and if anybody is seen riding a Polaris , all the other ATV riders are always picking on and making fun of him.
The biggest problem all Polaris ATV's have is their belt drive, cvt clutch system, " IT DOESN'T WORK" it slips and smokes every time it gets stuck and wet, you can spot and smell a Polaris just by looking for and smelling the rubber burning white smoke!

Honda's are great but they have complex electronics and are expensive which is why I won't buy one. Yamaha is not second place because they have problems with rear axle housings breaking.
Suzuki and Kawasaki for me.

Edit: Pre 2003 Suzuki and pre 2005 Kawasaki for me.

We have a mid eighties yamaha 200 3 wheeler sitting in the yard. It's a 2 cycle chain drive that was picked up for 300 shekels. It's more than paid for itself. Countless fun rides and it's dragged two elk out of the back country and no problems. Hadn't been run in a year and two weeks ago I threw a charge on it and it fired up and took off.

Point being, all the experts want to tell you what a piece of garbage this 250 is, yet you say everything works and it runs well. You aren't looking to be the fastest or best on the block, you already said that. You also said you are new at this. If you can pick it up for 500 or so, you'll have a lot of fun and learn a lot without being ATV poor for it.

Buy it cheap and you'll have fun and learn a lot for yourself. Then when you want to sink more money, which you will cause it's fun, you'll have some personal experience to draw from.

This is ATV country here. 4 wheel drive trucks and ATV's account for about 90% of the traffic. People with Yamaha's bitch about Polaris and people with Polaris say they like them. Bottom line, I don't see them broken down any more than any other and most breakdowns are when they are crashed or abused anyway.

If you were looking for something new that is the hottest on the market, that would be one thing. You are looking to scoot around a bit and learn something about these things, and that's another thing. If it's cheap, the only way you lose is if it disintegrates the week you buy it.

A few hundred bucks in the ATV game is not a lot of money. If you like it tell your buddy you'll give him 500. You aren't going to find one cheaper that is better.

I have a friend who has 2 polaris ATVs built for racing. He swears by them. They aren't much good in the wet mud, but they seem to be some of the fastest ones in my area.

Well folks I bought the machine for 700frns. The wife and I price shopped and came to the conclusion that it was a good deal. My wife likes it since there is no shifting and is getting more brave as she rides it more. My 7y.o. thinks he can ride it by himself and every day after school wants to go for a spin. It was a good 7000frns spent. Thank you all for your insight and opinions.

I have a 1989 Honda trx. I can't kill it and I can't fault it. I have left it standing unused in the weather for to 12 months and it still started first kick. I would definitely go for a 4wd if you are going off road. This machine is more reliable than any car I have ever owned and it has never, never failed me.
